Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 41, Number 6, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 29 September 1908 — Last Band Concert of Season. [ARTICLE]
Last Band Concert of Season.
The Rensselaer band concluded its free out doors concert season Thursday night, when they gave the concert without pay from the merchants, who had so generously contributed to the support of the band throughout the season. There was a good sized crowd out for the last night and the concert was of the same pleasing kind that has given such pleasure every Thursday night duing the summer. The season has been a successful one in every particular, justifying the Republican’s early claim that greater satisfaction would result to the band members and to the merchants and the public if the organization got along without a high priced imported leader. The members would he pleased because they would receive a share in the money paid by the merchants instead of seeing the leader get it all. The merchants would be better satisfied because the band members in turn spend the money they receive with the merchants that support the band. And the public is bet'er satisfied because the music is all heme music, and tbe music, is just as good or better because the boys practice more regularly and with greater zeal when they realize that they are to get the pay and not the instructor. 'lt has, to be sure, been a very successful season and the band members wish to thank the business men that supported it and the public owes vote of thanks to the band boys for having given them such splendid entertainment during the year. They can reorganize again next year with the full assurance that the public will welcome their reappearance.
