REV. SAM SMALL INSULTS HIS AUDITORS

Makes Democratic Speech at Francesville and Declares that Men are Ashamed of America.

Rev. Sam Small made a democratic speech at Francesville yesterday and in the course of his remarks said that there was a time when the people of this country were proud to say that they were American citizens, but that that time had passed and that most people were now ashamed to admit that they were residents of this country. If Samuel Small, democrat, thinks that way, we are wondering why he does not leave and find some country that looks good to him. There are a great many people this year who are claiming that the opportunity for the poor man has been destroyed, but it is all bosh. There was never a time in this country and certainly never a time in any other when the young man of brains and balance had a better chance to succeed, and the colleges of the land are today filled with poor young men who are making their way through them because they are industrious and ambitious. And there is no barrier to he aspirations of any man. On the other hand, no legislation will make a man successful who does not strive constantly to achieve success for himself. It was Sam Small’s plaim that this is a country of limited opportunities that caused his treasonous outbe&k. It was a lie as poisonous and Insulting as ever a traitor to bis country proclaimed to an American audience. The man who is ashamed of his country and his flag should leave it, and the man who says that others are ashamed of the land of

liberty and opportunity has blasphemed his fellowman and deserves the fate of a traitor. We believe that the individual patriotism of this country has grown with its widening progress and prosperity and we believe that the individual citizens of this country, irrespective of politics, would resent the Insult that they are ashamed of the stars and stripes. Sam Small may be ashamed but he has no right to say that others are. Sam hails from Georgia, but the great state is now one of the most progressive and prosperous of Our south* land, and his Imputation against the patriotic citizenship of that state would receive as speedy denial as it does in the north. Sam Small made a reputation so himself as a sensational preacher, who would say things without respect to the feelings of his auditors, and this license of free and uncontradicted insult has made him run wild in an effort to attract attention by his sensational and irrational ranting. And he has often said many things that his audience was ashamed of even if he was not, but they have been passed with little comment, but when he says that the American people are ashamd of their country, it is time to call a halt, and the democratic party can not afford to have him espousing their cause. What Sam Small and his anarchy needs is to have the backs of every patriot turned toward him when he seeks to address an American audience. He is both a liar and a traitor and no honest man can respect him.
