County Commissioners Proceedings

The county commissioners met- in regular session this week " The auditor directed to advertise one bridge in Keener township and one in Union township, contract to be let} at October term. The Winamac Bridge Co. awarded the contract for a new bridge in Hanging Grove township for 3848.50, and the contract for Wooden pile bridges in Keener township for the sum of 36.05 per foot. The auditor was directed to advertise the Gillam gravel road for resale, the same not having bem completed by contractor.

The contractor allowed 36,323.87 for work on the Knowlton stone roads roads in Carpenten township. A new highway In Newton township, petitioned for by Michael R. Halstead et al, was ordered established on report of viewers to the width of 50 feet, there being no remonstrance or objection on file to same. Expense account ordered paid. Matthpw Dougan et al filed a petitioned for a new highway In Waler and Wheatfield townships. Same ker and Wheatfield townships. Same Alexander Merlca presented a petition for a new highway In Hanging Grove towpship. Notice found sufficient Wilson Schafer, Jacob R Wilcox and Warren Robinson appointed viewers to meet Sept 21st at auditor’s office and qualify and make report on or before October term. Louis Welsh et al filed petition for vacation of highway in Jordan township. Same contlriued for notice. The following Inspectors were appointed for special and regular elections:

Carpenter, east precinct, Samuel Bowman, regular. Carpenter, east precinct, J. J. Portee, special. Carpenter, south precinct, Cha a . Bonner. Marion No. 1, S. R. Nichols. Marlon, No. 3, Harvey Wood, Sr.' Marion No. 4, Chas. Morlan. Union, south, Stephen T. Comer. Barkley, east, J. F. Payne. Gillam, B. F. Rouse. Walker, Wm. Middlecamp, regular. The drainage commissioners filed report In Besse ditch, same continued for objections. Thomas G. Redgate filed a petition for a ditch. There being no objections on file the same was referred to Myrt B. Price, engineer; W. V. Porter, special drainage commissioner, and Jas. R. Parklson, third drainage commissioner, to meet at auditor’s office Sept 19th to qualify and report on or before the 2nd dtjy of the October term.

John Eger was awarded the contract for groceries for use of the county farm at $143.06; G. B. Porter for clothing at $34.35,. and Roth Bros., for meat at $10.25. The report of the Superintendent of the County Farm examined and approved. The county officers reported f es collected as follows: auditor, $35 70; sheriff, $135.93; recorder, $328.65; clerk, $160.95. Report of interest on county funds for August: First Nalonal Bank of Rensselaer, $77.74; Bank of Wheitfle’d, $12.34; Jasper Savings & Trust Co., $72.69; State Bank of Rensselaer, $73.60
