A Former Resident Dies.
News of the death of William Thomas Pritchard, of Franklin, has been received by Mrs. Frank Parker, and relatives, In Rensselaer. Mr. Pritchard was a well known lawyer at Frank-
lin. During his early life he resided in Jasper county, and he will be remembered by many of our older citizens. Mr. Pritchard had been In failing health for several years and this year he had been much worse and he had given up his legal practice and taken up a cottage on Blue river, near Edinburg. His condition did not improve and last Saturday he was operated upon and considerable serum was removed from the left lung, but he was too far gone and death came Sunday morning. Mr. Pritehard was born in Johnson county, Sept. 25, 1847, and was nearing his 61st birthday. He was a son of Allen Pritchard, who moved to Jasper county with his family in 1859, where deceased taught school for several years, and he was, regarded as an able educator. Of his teaching life the Star has the following to say:
"During his teaching days in Jasper county he lived about twelve miles from his home and this distance he walked at the week’s end and Monday morning again to resume his school work. A matter always referred to with pride by Mr. Pritchard was that while teaching in Jasper county he wae elected by the natrons of five school districts at one time to teach their schools. He was a teacher for thirteen years. About 1869, on the death of his father, the family removed to Franklin, and while teaching in this county he studied law. He was city attorney of Franklin from 1891 to 1897. Under President McKinley’s administration he was postmaster at Franklin. For a number of years he was chairman of the republican county committee of Johnson county. He leaves a widow and tour children. *
