CONFERENCE APPOINTMENTS; REV. KINDIG RETURNED

Methodist Meeting Adjourns at Attica After Listening to Address by Governor Hanly.

Attica, Ind., Sept 7.—The northwest Methodist conference closed here this afternoon with the appointment of ministers for the coming year. The list of appointments was read by Bishop Berry, the presiding officer, immediately after the close of Governor Hanly’s address defending his action in calling the special session of the state legislature. The appointments were awaited with unusual interest, fpr it was understood there were to be several changes which were not contemplated by the ministers. Heretofore conference politics has played an important part in the assignment of ministers. Bishop Berry, however,--de-livered his opinion forcibly on this method when he declared that the ministers should not dictate their own appointments; that he did not favor fixing up of slates to control the best appointments. The appointments were made as follows in the Hammond district: Hammond, formerly Valparaiso district —A. T. Briggs, district superln-
