Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 40, Number 101, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 28 August 1908 — A Yelp From The Democrat. [ARTICLE]
A Yelp From The Democrat.
The Jasper County Democrat, which has played in the roll of knocker since the first mention of holding a home coming was made, is now setting up a howl about the fact that the Republican has done all the printing for the home coming. As the writer was made the chairman of the advertising committee and Frank E. Babcock was made a member of it, the writer personally asked the Democrat publisher to attend the meetings of the committee, but he did not come and has ignored the home coming proposition through stubborn pig headedness. The printing for the home coming has, therefore, been done by. the Republican, and the disposition of the money appropriated will be published when the report is made, or is now open to the inspection of any person that cares to investigate it
The Morocco Courier did put up a howl about being asked to assist in advertising the home coming, but twenty of our neighboring exchanges gave the home coming extended mention, more mention than the Jasper County Democrat has given it. At the same time and in the same issue of the paper that the Morocco Courier Objected to advertising the home coming without pay, it published three columß of free advertising for the Kankakee fair. And the Jasper County Democrat with its sour vlsaged proprietors published a column of free advertising about the same fair, more than it has had to say about the home coming here in Rensselaer, which has had the endorsement of all progressive merchants and business men, and of all citizens, active or retired.
A physic would work wonders at the fountain head of the Jasper County Democrat, and it would be hard telling whether Jessen or Babcock should take it second hand. Savy.
