People Opposed to Subsidies.
The proposition of giving subsidies- to aid the Frankfort, Delphi & Northern Traction company in the construction of its proposed line, which was voted upon by the taxpayers of Center and Ross townships in Clinton county at special elections held Tuesday was defeated in both townships by large majorities. In Center township, which was asked for $50,000, the majority against the subsidy was 667. In Ross town ship, which was asked for $15,000 the proposition was defeated by 104. The Frankfort News says: “The failure of the townships to vote the subsidies will probably result in the abandonment of the efforts to build the road, as the arrangement the local promoters had with eastern capitalists who were to finance the road, required the local people to provide for all preliminary expenses.
