Had a Fine, Big Rain.
The official rain gauge, as kept by Prof. Klostermann, at the college, showed that the total rain faU Wednesday afternoon and night was one and one-half inches. It was certainly a fine rain and means the rescuing of the corn crop. It sems quite general in its scope and farmers In town today from all sections report a splendid rain. It was accompanied by some wind in town, but the wind seemed to be much stronger in the western part of the county, and over in Newton township the corn is said to be laid almost flat. There wjyr. algo considerable lightning, but aside from causing some trouble to electric light and telephone wires but little damage is reported. About a six foot section was blown off from the top of the Babcock & Hopkins’ elevator, smoke stack, but this was mended by of the city’s ladder truck. The tent in which Manager Ellis has been exhibiting his moving pictures was also slightly damaged, the top being ripped and torn in several places, but it was repaired in a short time and every thing is in readiness for the show again tonight. It was a mighty fine rain and has brought the smile of happiness to the faces of the farmers and townspeople alike.
