Squire Thornton at St. James, Mo.
Squire John H. Thornton, formerly a Justice of the peace and who founded and for several years successfully conducted the depot lunch counter, is now at St. James, Mo., from which place he has written to the Republican. He received ah invitation from the committee to the home coming and makes that the subject of his letter. He says: “I want to say through your paper that I appreciate the invitation that the committee sent me asking me to attend the home coming in Rensselaer in September. I am glad to see the names of the old citizens on the invitation committee, and am glad to know that they are all alive to the interests of the town, and also to learn that there are so many other young citizens of Rensselaer chock full of vim and enterprise. In all my travels over the country l have found that Rensselaer, Indiana, is one of the most enlittle cities that I have ever found, and I beUeve Rensselaer according to its population has produced more talent than any other city in the state. So I feel sure that you will have a grand and pleasant time Of it in September. I should be very glad to be present at your home coming and reunion of the old-timers of Jasper county." Mr. Thornton was an old veteran and a good citizen and while he has not been away long, his old friends and comrades would be glad to see him back for the home coming. Manicuring and shampooing done at Mrs. S. C. Irwin’s from 10 a. m. till 3 p. m., except Saturdays, by Miss Woodward of Chicago. Phone 399.
