Obituary of Jonh L. Smith.

The funeral of John L. Smith occurred at the Christian church Wednesday, Rev. J. L* Brady conducting the services. The funeral was largely attended, especially by members of the I. O. O. F. Lodge, of which he had long been a member, and the Odd Fellows had charge of the service at the grave, using their ritualistic service. The following obituary was read by Rev. Brady at the church: John L. Smith, the only son of Linzy and Nancy Smith, was born at Louisville, Ky., July 12, 1864, and died at his home near Rensselaer, Aug. 23,1908, age 64 years and 22 days. Lived at Louisville until 13 years of age, when he t was left an orphqp and lived with an uncle in Indianapolis until about 1882. . He was married to Martha F. Scearcy, July 26th, 1882, at Rossville, Ind. To this union was born one child, a son, Roy 8., who with his mother is left to mourn the loss of a loving father and husband. He has been a resident of Rensselaer and vicinity for the past 18 years, all of which time he has resided with the exception of three years on a farm near Rensselaer. He has been a member of the I. O. O. F. for the past 16 years. As an Odd Fellow he was an earnest and faithful worker.
