Modern Woodmen Strengthened.

The Modern Woodmen of America, which is one of the strongest fraternal insurance orders in the country, has a very healthy working organization In Renssleaer, which has just been considerably strengthened by the work of a deputy. The local camp has been doing business for some months through its clerk, Joe Jeffries and have not had a regular meeting place, but now they are to have a hall for their meetings and to meet at stated periods and to endeavor to further strengthen the camp by increasing the membership. Wednesday night some twelve of the new members were obligated in the office of N. Littlefield, and the plans for the future work were talked over. It was decided to rent the room formerly occupied by the Womans Relief Corps in the Warner building and it will be furnished for the purpose. The Modern Woodmen order has some very nice fraternal- work that adds to its excellence as an insurance order and it has a large membership in practically every state in the union. William Smith, who recently died in Rensselaer, was insured for $2,000, holding his membership in the Mt. Ayr camp. Save for this insurance his family would have been left with practically no means. Thursday of last week, less than two weeks after his death, the widow received a check for $2,000, the full amount of the policy. During the time Mr. Smith was sick, his neighbors in the lodge gave him many attentions, and the week beforehe died they made up a purse of $37 and sent it here by members. So, it will be seen that the Woodmen practice fraternity,, in addition to belonging for the primary object of protection. It Is planned to have a team from some neighboring camp ccme here within a week or two and confer the work on several candidates.
