Miss Marjorie Laughridge went to Lafayette today for a short visit with friends. 1 ; W. W. Wishard is here from Big Rapids, Mich., for a few days’ visit with relatives. Hollister. Mrs. V. Pierson and Mrs. J. F. Nelson went to Indianapolis yesterday to visit the family of Lem McCord. Lloyd Jessen, the telegraph operator, who recently returned home from the west, is now in charge of the Western Union telegraph office at Elgin, 111.
Mrs. H. K. Payne, who has been visiting her father, James Leatherman, returned to her home in Indianapolis Friday. Her father 1b now 86 years of age. The ladies of the Christian, church will serve a chicken pie dinner at the church parlors next Wednesday evening, beginning at 5 o’clock. Price for dinner 25 cents. Everybody Invited. Mr. and Mrs. August Samuelson, who have been spending the past month at the home of their daughter, Mrs. F. C. Taedtey, west of town, left today for their home in Champaign, 111. G. T. Williams, of Kirklin, was the guest Thursday and Friday of his niece, Miss Grace Hollister, who has been making her borne since last fall with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Hollister. Horace Daniels took his little daugh ter Dora back to Lafayette today to be examined by the specialist she seems to be getting along all right now and her parents are elated that she has prospects of complete recovery.

County * Surveyor Myrt B. Price, who has been laid up in his room in the Odd Fellows building for the past week, suffering from rheumatism, is somewhat better today, and is able to sit up a.little. He hopes to be able to get out next week. B. J. Moore, the river contractor, has finished his job of drilling, and has been delayed in blasting by the belated arrival of powder. So there was nothing doing toddy and he and three of his hands went up to the Kankakee on a fishing trip. J. H. S. Ellis and A. H. Hopkins were also in attendance at the national convention, as was also George A. Williams, the latter being an alternate pad probably the only one of the Rensselaer crowd that saw all of the convention from beginning to end. Louie Leopold, of Wolcott, tock in the Chicago convention and had a good time. Louie had no rouble in getting in, as his brother-in-law is someWKSt OF a politician and had provided himself with several choice seats. Louie stopped pff here Friday and Mrs. Leopold, who had been visiting here, accompanied him home. Grub worms are responsible for much of the dying grass in lawns, and many finely kept yards have almost been ruined by them. Wiley Duvall had considerable ground in
his front lawn spaded yesterday evening and wherever there was a spot of dry dead grass be found from two to six or seven grub worms. The firm of Maines & Hamilton is now employing three former Remington men, viz: Frank Morrow, Chas, Leavel and Brown Lamborn. They ( evidently find the Remington quality ian unusually good kind. Charley Witshire, who has been a member of the regular army for more than , two years, arrived here thli | morning for a short visit with his parents,Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wiltshire. He to not attired In the regular army clothes this time, but has on a drill team suit of the Modern Woodmen of America. He Is a member of the Modern Woodmen order at Columbus, and has charge of their drill team and ha took tha team to Peoria, 111., to contest In the national camp of Woodman, and while be did not win with his team he states that they made a very satisfactory showing for a new team.
