Frightened Horse; Overturned Buggy
Quite a serious accident occurred just after noon today, Tuesday, and two persons were somewhat injured as a result. Mrs. Nan Abbott and two children were coming from their home in Barkley township to attend the funeral of Dallas Nichols, Mrs. Abbott and Mrs. Nichols being sisters. When they arrived at the road just north of Rensselaer and near the residence of Will Coen they approached a traction engine and well drilling derrick, but the horse did not seem to be frightened and they were not anticipating that he would scare, but just as they were abreast of the engine, which was also in motion, the horse made a lunge an'd turned squarely around. Miss Abbott saw that the buggy was going to turn over and jumped out and avoided injury, but the son was thrown over the front of the buggy and the buggy overturned and Mrs. Abbott was thrown out. Both Mrs. Abbott and the son were considerably bruised up and they were taken to the home of Mr. Coen and a doctor was called at once. He found that neither had suffered any broken bones, and it is thought that no internal injuries received, but Mrs. Abbott was taken very sick at the stomach and was in considerable pain. They are still at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Coen. The man who had the traction engine did not wait long and his name is not knowm - ■-
