Lake County in Arms.
Automobile road races have been barred from the gravel and macadam roads of Lake county, and a movement is being inaugurated that will have for its purpose the barring of non-resident automobllists from the use of the improved highways of the county during wet weathr and the limiting of the speed of them at all times. Lake county has one of the finest gravel road Bystems In the state and is very popular with Chicago chauffers, who swam over its roads every Sunday. In wet and rainy weather the suction of the rubber tires, when machines are driven at a high speed cuts great gulleys in the soft gravel or macadam, with the result that the road is speedily ruined unless repaired at once. Gravel road ref pairs have become an enormous expense to the county, and many men and teams are kept constantly at work repairing the damage done by the automobiles. So great is the havoc done that steps have been taken by the county authorities to abate the nuisance.
