John Hack Visits Rensselaer.

John Hack, formerly of Lowell, was in Rensselaer last Friday looking after some ditch matters. For almost two years now he has bean engaged in the construction of a levee on the bank of the Illinois river across from Havana, 111. The levee is foot miles long and when completed will protect from overflow some 4,000 acres of-good land. The water ip now ao deep there that work has been suspended. lie says that the Illinois river is very matreially affected hy the ditching schemes that have been put in operation in recent years along the tributary streams, and that the Illinois rises much more rapidly now than it formerly did when we had rain in this direction. •
