Last Friday a man named John Beezey came in on the train and went to the livery barn and asked for a team to drive out to Halsteads. He got the team and paid for the hire and made the trip. Upon his return he again wanted the team to go to Rensselaer, and Claude Baldwin, who was attending the barn, felt somewhat suspicious about letting him have the team alone and told him that he would drive him to Rensselaer. After some time Beezey consented to this and they started. Some place between here and their destination they. met Mr. Dunlap, and ha thinking that the man was alright, started to bring Claude home with him and let Beezey go on alone. After parting they talked the matter over and Jim became suspicious also, and they turned around and went to Rensselaer in search- of the man and team. They saw him once and he was driving through town in this direction and Mr. Dunlap supposed that he was coming home, so did not molest him. After supper Jim and Claude came home and. were surprised to find that the rrtan and team was still absent. Mr. Dunlap again started on the hunt and after considerable searching learned that his man had departed in the direction of Pleasant Ridge. About half way between that place and Rensselaer he came upon the buggy, minus the team and tongue. After some more searching he fbund 'his team about two miles north of Pleasant Ridge and getting the team and buggy together he returned home. There is no doubt but what Beezey intended to steal the rig, and had it not been for his having had! a runaway, he would probably have succeeded. —Mt. Ayr Pilot.
