Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 40, Number 76, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 29 May 1908 — Delegate to Military Convention. [ARTICLE]
Delegate to Military Convention.
Omar Day, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. S. Day, who is a student at Purdue University, has attained more distinction in the miltary branch of his university career tha,n any student in our recollection who has attended Purdue University, where there is compulsory military training for the first college year. Omar took a liking to the drills and this is the third year that he has taken a deep interest in the work, and he has enlisted as a member of the Indiana National Guard and became attached to Co. M, of Rensselaer, in order to get the training at the annual camp. His interest and military training have stood him in good stead and he has arrived at the rank of a captain and it is quite probable that during his senior year in college he will atin and it is quite probable that durbe made a major, thus holding the highest military rank held by an officer in Rensselaer since the civil war. He is a member of the national military organization, the Scabbard and Blade, Company E, of that organization, being stationed at West Lafayette, and he has been chosen the delegate of that organization to the national convention at Madison, Wis., to which place be started this Wednesday afternoon, and will pass through Rensselaer on the 3:18 train. It is greatly hoped that he will realize his ambition to be elected the major of the Purdue battalion.
