Hughes Elected a Methodist Bishop.
President Edwin H. Hughes, of DePauw University, was Tuesday elected a bishop of the Methodist Episcopal church at the general conference now in session at Baltimore, Md. Rev. Hughes is one of the stalwarts in Americas Methodism. He is still a young man, but he has had much success both as a pulpit orator and an educator. He was born at Moundsvllie, W. Va., on Dec. 7, 1866, and his father was also a Methodist minister. He was educated in the West Virginia State University, the Ohio \Yeßleyan University and the Boston School of Theology. He preached for jgarft. in Mass** chusefts and was called to the presidency of DePauw in 1903. Dr Hughes ituiuied to the teachers of Jasper county at the summer institute in 1906 at the Rensselaer Methodist church and hi£ lecture was one of the best ever delivered in Rensselaer and Dr. Hughes will.long be remembered by it.
