SCHOLARS HOLD TRACK MEET
Eighth Grade Pupils Defeat Freshzmen and, Seventh in Three Class Team Field Event. The pupils of the Freshmen, Seventh and Eight grades held a class field meet at the stock farm Wednesday afternoon, and it developed the fact that there is a great amount of talent amohg the boys who are to be in the high school next year and it is probable that another year will see the old track meets reinstated as an athletic feature in the high school. The surprise of the event Wednesday was that many of the boys exhibited special talent along certain lines, while they had had no previous training, and it is certain that there is sufficient talent among the youngsters to make a good showing another year The Eighth grade were victorious, somewhat to the surprise of the Freshmen, and the final result was as follows: i Eighth grade 52 1-2 points; Freshmen 46 1-2 points; 7th grade 10 points. Pole vault —Porter (8) Ist; Eigelsbach (f) 2nd; Robinson (8) and Elder (f) tied for 3rd. 8 feet Paul Miller the 7th grade, surprised every one by winning the mile run, as he had never been regarded as a possibility.. Leo Colvert looks like a comer in the jumping events, and with practice should be able" next year to reach the high school record of 5 feet 4 inches, if he enters in a state meet. " John Morgan, of Rensselaer, is credited with 5 feet 7 inches, and also with the high school polevault record in Indiana, but they were made at Bloomington and not at a regular state meet. Charlie Porter, Simon Thompson and others are also exhibiting * good qualities and track work should be quite a feature in higl school athletics next year.
