Ruble Canned Krant; Company Canned Ruble.
The NtwJand kraut factory did a mammoth bittiness in putting up cabbage last yeai, working well into the winter to get all the cabbage that the enterp ising manager, A. C. Ruble had purchased, into barrels. Ruble w..j* tb'» Man - ger at Newland for the Bloomington Canning Co., and the company granted him unlimited swing and ii* represented that he had sold all the kraut he was having barreled and the company thought they were right in clover. But the kraut was not sc - ’d and the Newland factory now has some 3,000 barrels on hand, which should have brought at lea®* $6 a barrel. Now they cannot get more than $1 for it, as there is no summer market for kraut and there is great danger of its spoiling before cold weather. ( Not only did Ruble buy all the cabbage raised around Newland, but he went to other places and bought cabbage, which he had shipped in, and the factory was kept busy last fall until past the time when all th* kraut Ruble had sold should be dell veied. Such a remarkable business capacity did Ruble evince" that when the Gifford railroad company held its annual stock holders’ meeting he was elected one of the directors of the road. And then the kraut bubble exploded, and Ruble bad to admit that he had canned too much kraut, ao the Bloomington Pickle* Co. canned Ruble, who went to Montana, and will probably get some parties there interested in a kraut factory. Tom Callahan and Frank E. Lewis each had some stock in the Newland plant, but they expect to be able to pull out of it all right.
