McCoy Disaster Caused Delay.
W iUiam Bennett has let the contract to J. F. Osborne for the erection of k fine and modern eight room house on his 40 acre tract of land just west of Rensselaer adjoining the Chas. Battleday property at the edge of the corporation. It will be’ remembered that Mr. Bennett had planned to build four years ago on the strength of money he had saved and had on deposit in the A. McCoy and Co. bank and that at the time of the failure he had the lumber all in Rensselaer, and partly on the ground. On the day that the bank doors failed to open he came in to Rensselaer to pay the freight bill and tendered Agent Beam a check on the McCoy bank, but Mr. Beam told him that he could not accept it. That was the first indication that Mr. Bennett had of the failure. He at once stopped the men from unloading the lumber, wrote to the shippers that the failure of the bank had swept away his money, and shipped the lumber back. He remained on the farm in Barkley township four more years, and now after this long delay he will build the home and retire from the active farm life he has engaged in for so many years. The house will not be on the same plan as the one that he had intended to build four years ago, and will be eight rooms instead of nine.
