Senator Bowser Will Propose Temperance Bill.
Senator A. J. Bowser, of Chesterton, is at work on the draft of two bills which he will present at the next session of the legislature, for the control and regulation of the liquor business. The first bill will, in brief, make the following provisions: Confine saloons to incorporated cities and towns, limit them to the business districts of such cities and towns and I keep them out of the residence, factory and suburban districts; limit the number of saloons to one for each
1,600 population of such city or town; make the saloon license $2,000, and divide this money $1,500 to the city or town, and SSOO to a fund for the purpose of maintaining a hospital for the cure of inebriates; create a state board of liquor commissioners and permit no license to be issued except by this board. The second bill will provide for the establishment of a hospital for Inebriates. “I don’t know whether I will meet with encouragement,” said Senator Bowser in ah interview, “but I do know that these two bills will be presented to the legislature and they will either have to pass them or turn me down.”
