COUNTY TICKET IS NOMINATED
Republicans Nominate Splendid Ticket In One of the Liveliest Conventions Ever Held SHIRER FOR SHERIFF Contest Lively for Delegates To The State Convention and Results In The Selection of a Watson — I —*v Delegation. The county convention Monday was called to order promptly at 1:30 in the afternoon and nominations for a permanent chairman were asked for. The names of C. C. Warner, county clerk, and county auditor Leatherman were placed before the convention and on the ballot Warner was chosen Chas. H. Peck, of Remington, was chosen permanent secretary. A committee on permanent organization consisting of the following delegates was. chosen: W. C. Peck, A. J. Harmon, C. G. SpitleT, sl. M. Ocker and Thos. J. Robinson. Charles Bonner, of Carpenter, nominated Jesse D, Allman for treasurer, and he was nominated by acclamation. A. S. Keene, of Wheatfield, placed the name of John W. Tilton, of Wheatfield, before the convention for the nomination for county recorder and he was nominated by acclamation. P. Shrer, of Barkley, was nominated for sheriff by Eli Arnold; Chas. Morten, of Marion, by E. W. Irwin; Gus Grant, of Marion, by Bert Spencer.
The first ballot stood: Shirer 58; Morlan 49, Grant 38. 73 ballots necessary for a choice. The second ballot stood: Shirer 70, Morlan 43, Grant 32. The chairman called attention to the fact that democratic methods were being employed and asked that due diligence foe exercised that there might be no illegal nomination. On the third ballot Shirer received' 84, Grant 20 and Morlan -38. Ballot illegal. On the fourth ballot Shirer was aom inated. He received 95 votes, Grant 15 and Morlan 33.
Willis Jennings Wrigbt, oft Marion, was then .nominated for coroner and was chosen by acclamation. John Rattet, of Walker, was nominated by H. B. Brown, and was, by acclamation, nominated for commissioner from the Ist district. CStaas. (Denham, from the third, was chosen by acclamation, i Gea May, of Remington, nominated Myrt B. Price, of Carpenter, for count surveyor. J. F. Bnow, at Marion, nominated W. Frank Osborne and A. L. Jensen nominated Robt. Mannan, of WheaiHeld. This promised to be the real.fight of the convention and the first ballot showed strong support for all the candidates. —:—-—i—:— Price etood 59, Osborne 65 and Mannan 20. On the second ballot Osborne was nominated. The result was: Price 5,5, Osborne 77, Mannan 13—sn unlucky number for some one sure. Mr. Price then moved that Osborne’s nomination be made unanimous. Mr. Mannan seconded the motion and it was carried. Delegates to state convention: First district: L W. Ferris, Chas. Peregrine. Second district: 8. R. Nichols, W. L. Wood. Third district: John Porter, oJhn Wilson. At large: W. V. Porter. The seven delegates are all Watson men. Congressional convention: John O’Connor, R. A. Mannan, E. D. Rhoades, John Bruner, O. P. Tabor, G. A. Chappell, C. J. Dean.
