Quarters to Be Changed and Enlarged
B. K. Smith, of Montlcello, is here today setting up a new 5-horse power Lambert gasoline engine for the Republican and Journal. The consolidated papers, with their large circulation, have found it necessary to have more power for driving the machinery than is furnished by water motors, and the latter will be dispensed with. It is only a few months at the outside when the city will put all water motors on a meter basis, and this will mean that their use will be dispensed with, as the city cannot furnish water for motors at the present rate without losing money, and the users of motors cannot pay a higher mte without paying more than the amount of power furnished them is worth. In a few days the old Republican building which has been occupied for a quarter of a century will be vacated and the paper will be published in the Journal building, the whole downstairs being used for the purpose. This is made necessary owing to the increased business of the consolidated papers and the large amount of machinery in use. Ed Davlß, of Montlcello, brother of J. K. Davis, of Rensselaer, is assisting in the installation of the engine.
