Last Week of the Contest

This is the last week of the Republican popularity voting contest and on Saturday evening at 8 o’clock the ballot box will be closed and the vote counting will begin. The voting went ahead last week with even a slight increase in the total vote each day, and this week it is expected the vote will be the heaviest it has been since the contest was started, closing up with a grand rush Saturday evening.

The task of counting the votes will be a tedious one and will require that all the votes be separated and that each one be scrutinized carefully to see that the person It was intended for is given full credit. It is expected to have the count completed in time to announce who the winner is by the Monday evening Rpublican and by the Tuesday Semi-Weekly Republican, which goes to press immediately after the dally 1b printed. The contest has been the chief attraction in Rensselaer and vicinity since it was started and there has been considerable disappointment ex pressed that the vote was not published right up to the end, but this would have been unfair, as It would have made it possible in the event of two candidates having almost the same number of votes for one to have invested enough to have gone ahead of the other. As it now stands vjo person knows the standing of a single candidate, even the Republican bus inses office being entirely in the dark and therefore no candidate has any advantage in this respect. Candidates or their friends bringing in votes can now deposit them in the ballot box themselves. They should be tied up In bundles of not more than 30 coupons and dropped In the box. If you should wish to assist one of the candidates at the last minute by subscribing for the Republican for a year for some distant friend you can get 150 votes and help your favorite win the sls gold watch that will be given to the candidate having the most subscriptions to thier credit, as well as make a nice present to your friend. All candidates are admonished tha the votes must be In by 8 o’clock on Saturday evening, March 14th. They can not be counted if brought In after that date. All tickets left unused by merchants will be redeemed by the Republican at full value.
