Obituary of William Hanley,
William Hanley was born at Fort| Wayne, Ind., Aug. 6, 1838, died Feb. 25, 1908, at the age of 69 years, 6 months and days. He was the youngest son of Thomas and Mary Hanley, who came from this country Hanley, who came to this country from Ireland in 1826. His mother died when he was six years of age and his father a few years later, and he was brought to Gillam township, where he made his home with his brother-in-law, Wm. Robinson. He went west to lowa in 1859, and afterwards returned to that state, where in 1861 he married Elizabeth Peregrine and came back to Gillam township to live. He served with distinction in the civil war in the 38th Indiana Infantry. To this union was born five children, Frank M„ Emma L., Chas. W., Mary E. and Ord O.- Hanley. Emma L. died at LaPorte, Nov. 4, 1882. He was the youngest of a family of thirteen children. He united with the Methodist church in 1867, and has been a faithful member ‘of that chureh since that time. William Hanley, whose death marks the close of eight years of awful suffering, was a pioneer of Jasper county and one of the best citizens. He figures extensively in the early history of Jasper and Is given much credit in a history of Jasper, Benton, Warren and Newton counties for the work he has done promoting good road and school enterprises. The funeral services will be held at Kniman at 9 o’clock a. m., by the Rev. O’Brian, of Wheatfield, on Thursday, and flie Interment will be made in the Independence in Gillam township. (
