To Farm for Basket Willows.

To add willows, for tbe making of basket*, to tbe list of agricultural products of the country, is tbe purpose of a new move by Uncle Sam’s fores Cry service. So writes Rente Bache In the Technical World Magazine. A wmgß plantation at Arlington, across the Potomac from the city of Washington, has been established for tbe growing of a number of different species ®f basket willows; and considerable quantities of tbe osier rods thus produced have been made up Into moat excallapt baskets by mauufaeturera In Baltimore. Baltimore Is a somewhat important center for the manufacture of line biokets, the raw material for which la almost wholly supplied by willow-grow-ers In the vicinity. One might say the same thing rtf Richmond, where there is a great basket-making establishrneyt which raises Its own osiers; and frother such town Is York, Pa., wbich le in the midst of a willow-growing district. These cities, with plentiful supplies of osiers near at hand, are aj>e to ship highgrade baskets all over W country.
