Queer Tombstone Inscription.
Hugh DeWitt, SI yeans of age, and for-many years a 'rwidvmt us Battle Ground, died recently at the State Soldiers’ Home near Lafayette, and was laid to rest in the Battle Ground cemetery in a grave he had dug himself, and which he had walled up with brick and lined with cement The tombstone was also already at the head of the grave, and the following inscription was carved upon it: "a bachelor lies beneath'this sod Who disobeyed the laws of God; advice to others here I give, don't live a batch as I did live, t Regret” The writer of these lines was very well acquainted with old Mr. DeWitt some ten or twelve years ago, and one time he took me to the cemetery to view his grave and stone, and he exhibited the greatest delight that he had arranged everything for his burial. At that time he also had a self-, made casket that be expected to be burled in, but this is said to have been set adrift in the Wabash river by some .boys after he was sent to the soldiers’ home. He was a kindly old man with many eccentricities.
