Death of Rev. Aaron Putman.
' The following short obituary note was received this week by the Republican: “Died, at the home of his adopted son, Edward Putman, in Wann, Okla., on Jan. 19, 1908, at 8:40 a. m„ Rev. Aaron I. Putman, from dropsy of the heart, aged 94 years 4 months and' 25 days.” The letter was written at Wann, Okla., and dated Feb. 10th, but no name was signed to it. Apology was made for the delay in sending it, stating that the writre had been sick. From several Rensselaer people, principally from H. O. Harris, we are able to learn considerable about Rev. Putman. For many years he resided on a farm about two miles southwest of Mt. Ayr, In Newton county, and was a neighbor of Mr. Harris. He thinks Rev. Putman and wife and adopted son resided there for about thirty years and that they came from New York. He wa3% Missionary Baptist minister and one of the most highly respected men in the locality where he lived. He was the moving spirit behind the building of the Baptist church at Mt Ayr, and on several occasions filled the pulpit of the church in Rensselaer, and many of the members of tht church will remember him as a kindly old gentleman, of positive religious convictions and, altho an old-fashioned preacher, still an eloquent speaker and a man of great influence. His wife died some ten year ago and was buried- in the North Star, cemtery, near Mt Ayr. About 8 years ago his stepson moved to near Clear Water, Kans., and Rev. Putman accompanied him. The removal to Wann., Okla., was subsequently made.
