Collision Caused Dredge To Sink.

Wolcott Enteprise— The Sternburg dredge, which is cutting the big ditch from Monon creek to the Tippecanoe river, imitated the far famed McGinty last Sunday by going to the bottom of the ditch in sixteen feet of water. The crew had been cutting ahead and backed up to take out some lose dirt that the scoop did not get the first timd. The engineer did not get his bearings right and backed into seven inches of ice which covered the ditch at the rear of the dredge. A hole was made in the hull which filled with water and inside of thirty minutes the dredge had sunk to the level of the machinery floor. Now to raise the dredge is a problem in mechanics which the crew are trying to solve. An at tempt is being made to patch the hole and raise the dredge by pumping the water out of the hole and for this purpose pumps have been secured from the stone quarry at Monon. The dredge is located about two miles from the starting point.
