J A. Hopkins wife, of Superior, Neb., who were called to their old home by the serious sickness of his mother, Mrs. Maria Hopkins, left lor their home on the afternoon train today. They are leaviug his mother very much improved in health, altho gaining strength very slowly. Mrs. Hardy, who - came from Oklahoma, will remain for an indefinite time. Fire broke ont in the upstairs of Ed G. Hagher’s residence 31 miles south of town and, only by a heroic effoit were they able to save the place. They are altogether unable to adsonnt for the blaze, it started under the floor ot a bed room and swept beneath the entire upstair. Mrs. Gallagher and two farm bands were at home at the time and they succeded in extinguishing the fire with only Admail loss of furniture and carpets. Dr. A. L. Berkley for a number of years one of the leading doctors in this place, bat now i? located in Portland, Ore., arrived here today for a short stay with frieoda. He has been at Newman, 111., for some time at the bedside of his mother, who is still in very poor health. Dr. Berkley reports that he and hii wife, who was Lnella McCoy, daughter of T. J. McCoy and wife are both enjoying the very best of health. He will probably start back to Portland tomorrow. The K. O. C.
