No News From Sportsman.
Sportsman, the yellow foot racer, and Raymond, his manager, are still absent; and about all their former acquaintances have given up all expectation of their return. Sportsman is said to have lelt a □ote explaining his abrupt depar ture and stating that he wonld return Wednesday evening. When he did not come it is said he wrote a short letter stating that he had missed the train.
We do not vouch for his language but it is said that he said that he got iuto the depot just as the train was pulling out, and that he dropped into a nearby stationery store and wrote a few lines, and then decided he ought to mail them ou the train he was to have gone on, so he started down the track aud overtook the train at Hammond and mailed the letter.
As Sport did not arrive the next day, however, it is feared he is trifling with the affections of his erstwhile Rensselaer backers. There Isa stronge possibility that the “once upon a time” article, prophesied upon Raymond’s departure, will be ripe about the first of the week.
