Brewer Favors Local Option.
Monticello Democrat. Adolphus Busch, the millionaire brewer of St. Louis, is quoted as follows: “I am in favor of local option. If a saloon is obnoxious to a cammunity let it be voted out.” As to Sunday closing, Mr. Busch proposes that saloons be closed at midnight Saturday night and remain closed until 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. “That would give every one an opportunity to go to church in the morning,” says Mr. Busch.
This latter proposition will strike lid clampers as rather funny, but both proposals are big concessions from the position formly taken by liquor men. Mr. Busch is willing to make the concessions, however, to stay the advance of prophibition which he says is spreading all over the south. “Even Oklahoma Went prohibition, and that cost me a mil lion dollar,” said Mr. Buscn. If prohibition ih Oklahama cost Mr. Busch a million dollars it ought not to be very hard to figure out who saved that million.
