Chicago Papers Economical.

A recent issue of the Michigan City Dispatch oontains the following: “Beginning with next Sunday a person who gets Chicago Sunday papers at the local news stands must order them in advance. The papers have entered into an agreement to Hie effect that hereafter no returns of unsold papers will be accepted and that the agent must pay for every copy sent to him, whether he sells it or not.

“This means that agents so as not to have a lot of unsold papers on their hands will trim dose to the edge and buy only copies needed to supply regular customers. Transient trade on the Chicago papers will in some ways be killed for agents, who would rather go short than be left with a bundle of unsold copies which can not be returned. Heretofore they were allowed to return unsold copies of all Chicago papers the same as of other cities and were given credit for them on the bill, according to the recent agreement, the dailies from that city will be all a dead loss.”

The above is alas largely true concerning the local situation. Some time ago the Chicago papers all raised the wholesale price to the local dealer, on account of the increased cost of paper; and by way of balm for his wounded feelings, some of them offered him a limited return privilege. These papers have now cut off this return priv- - T The local dealer, however, now that his already small profit's subject to the great additional drain of total loss on unsold copies, will be obliged to be all the more oareful concerning the regulation of their order, and advice everyone who would like to be able.to depend upon having a paper every day, to leave an order for regular delivery by carrier.
