Death of John B. Elder.
John B. Elder, father of David A. Elder, of Bensselaer, and for many years a resident of Jasper county, died at the soldiers’ home in Marion, IncL, last Saturday, NoV. 30, at 7:15 a. m. His age was 80 years, 8 months and 12 days. He enlisted in Go. E 154th Indiana Volunteer Infantfry at the beginning of the Civil war and served until near the close of that great struggle when he was discharged on aooount of measles contracted whileiathe ser vltaft. z Deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis on the 14th ot last May, while visiting his son David, in Bensselaer. He was later taken to the Soldiers’ Home at Marion. A telegram announcing his death was received by his son last Saturday and he at once went to Marion and brought the body to Idaville, White county, wherelt waalaid to rest beside that of his wife who died nine years ago last March. Deceased was born in Hancock county, Ohio, March 18, 1827, and was married July Ist, 1852, to Louisa Towers. To this union was born five sons, rhiee of whom survive,, viz. George H. of Delphi, David A., of Bensselaer, and James E., of Monticello.
