Look Out For Mail Order Fakirs.
Another fakir who sought to defraud the readers of the Republican by advertising in these columns was Charles E. Marshall, ot Chicago. Marshall claimed to have a large stock of jewelry, which he was selling at very low prices. He sent an attractive advertisement with instructions to run it and send in the hill. About all the newspapers around here fell victims, but the Republican sent the bill first and demanded casein advance or no advertising. No reply was received, and in about two weeks it developed that Marshall was a fraud and that some $15,000 or $20,000 that had been sent to him by confiding people was kept and Marshall had skipped out. He had no jewelry and simply robbed the gullible people who prefer buying by mail instead of thru a reliable local dealer. We have the most complete stock of hard and soft coal in the city. Just received car of genuine Brazil block, and car famous Tennessee smokeless. Coen & Brady.
