“Working” Rensselaer is Correct.

Two solicitors are working Rensselaer lor subscribers for the Lake County Times, published at Hammond, and of course, are getting some business. We are unable to see what any person, and especially families where there are children, would care to place in their homes a yellow newspaper abounding in accounts of rapes, murders, scandals and all the horrors of that sinburdened district of foreigners. Gary and Indiana Harbor furnish enough crime each twenty-four hours to fill a newspaper and the Hammond Times head lines each day emblazon these matters before its readers. The Times is rather a!newsy paper, employing plenty of capable writers, but it is a paper appropriate to the needs of a city like HammoDd and its surroundings where the crime history .of each day is desired, and Rensselaer people do not need it. The Republican aims to chronicle each days happenings as they occur with no insane embellishments, but it is, published for a different constituency from that mixed class that comprise a large per cent of the population of Hammond and adjacent country. We would suggest, therefore, that Rensselaer people desiring a daily paper other than the one published here buy either a Chicago or Indianapolis paper, where the news is free from sensationalism'and where the details of revolting crimes are not the main product of a day’s news rehearsal.
