JASPER COUNTY BOY PROMOTED
Fred W. Coen, General Manager Lake Shore Electric Railway Co. That is the way Fred Coen, born and raised within a few miles of Rensselaer and edneated in the Rensselaer city schools, will henceforth sign his name. He has just been promoted from the position of secretary and treasurer of the company which he has held for several years. For some time he has resided in Cleveland but his new position will require him to live at Norwalk, Ohio. He will also combine the duties of treasurer with his new po
sition. Fred Coen graduated from Rensselaer schools in 1891 and went to Vermillion, Ohio, to work with his brother Ed in one of the Dwiggins banks. He received a meagre salary and things went adversely for awhile. He volunteered to do some typewriting for a church at odd times and borrowed a typewriter to do it with, and the bank buildiDg burned down and the typewriter was destroyed and Fred had to pay it ont in installments, but adversities were met face to face aud and he surmounted them and grew as he did it, and now at the age of 37 years he is holding the very responsible position of general manager and treasurer of a large electric railway system. Rensselaer friends and his old school mates scattered over the country will be glad to learn of his advance, and, knowing his sturdy qualities, will expect still greater thiDgs from him.
