HALLOWEEN IMPS DO LITTLE HARM
The marshal, nightwatch and assistant police officers gave some of the kids a number of fast races Thursday night, overhauled a few and compelled them to return wagons, wood and other articles to the places from whence they were taken, but the number o. f prodigals exceeded the number of rectifiers and in some localities there remained evidences when day arrived that the devil-disturbed youth had had beed busy under the shadows of night. j . v “For the greater part the spiritwas mischevious and harmless, but occasional evidences of a heathen could be found. For instance Some persons had maliciously broken two of the gas pipe ports to the railing at the edge of the recently build cement walk over Make em-salf sewer between the properties of L. Strong and Nelson Randle. This was built at public expense and was a very neat job and served the purpose of protecting the public from stepping off the walk at night. What possible satisfaction could be procured in wrenching it from its fastenings is beyond understanding and the art speaks of a degenerate mind. Over north, in the neighborhood of the Alter tile factory and th e farm residences thereabouts, there is said to have been considerable “doings,” and about every farmer for a mile round is said to have been busy lor several hours collect ing the various parts of their wagons, etc. The perpetrators of the disagreeable things done in that community are said to have been of the long pants variety, judging by the feats of strength required to per form some'of them, but they did not throw away wagon taps, etc., bat left them where they could be found. ~ It is worth the taxes to have a dog to tie loose on Halloween night.
