PUT TO ROUT BY WABASH TEAM

Rensselaer Militia Football Club Saffers Defeat In First Game of Season. Struggling gamely to the last against superior weight and better physical condition the local football club got a drubbing in their first game of the season at Wabash Saturday. , "Xl* The game was played in a hard rain storm and before quite a large crowd that had braved the weather to see the Wabash champions lay it over a town with a b’g reputation. The Wabash team had the advantage of having many of its old athletic men in their line-up and of having played several games previously this year, but they had great difficulty in defeating Rensselaer and acknowleged it tQ.be the best team they had yLyed in two years! They were unable to make end runs and Morgan outpunted their full back, while Rensselaer broke up all their attempted forward passes, but the Wabash superiority seemed to be in line cutting and they were able to get three touch downs in this manner, altho once in the second halt Rensselaer held them on the one-yard line. , The final score whs Wabash 16, Rensselaer 0. Arrangements could not be made to get Wabsh over here this year, and it is [confidently believed we could, with some games intervening to put our boys in condition defeat them if we could get them over here. It was a good, clean game with fair decisions by the officials, and good treatment by the people of Wabash. An effort is being made to geta game with Brook for Wednesday to put the boys in better shape tor their hard game with the Chicago First Regiment team here next Satday.
