Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 40, Number 13, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 22 October 1907 — Tramps Are Dangerous. [ARTICLE]

Tramps Are Dangerous.

To the Republican a detective who is working on the case, said this week: “Men beating their way on freight trains and fellows tramping thru the country today may be put down as lawless and dangerous characters. There have been times when honest men, seeking for jobs have tramped the country, but there are none of that class on the road now. So-called tramps today should be given a cold reception by everyone. They are all bad men, and many of them are of the most dangerous class of criminals we have to deal with—men who blow open safes, rob stores, and do not hesitate to take 1 i fe, as was the case with the three “hoboes” arrested at Winamac for killing your sheriff the other day.”—Winamac Republican. This Is < good advice. Persons should refuse to encourage tramps by feeding them. Let them go to work if they are honest.
