Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 40, Number 13, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 22 October 1907 — Sheriff Bowman Resigns. [ARTICLE]
Sheriff Bowman Resigns.
David Bowman, whom the Pulaski county commissioners appointed sheriff Immediately after the death of Charles Oglesby, has resigned his office, altho he had filed his bond and been duly commissioned. It seems that there was considerable dissatisfaction at the abrupt action of the commissioners in filling the vacancy, and Bowmon would not serve on this account. The com* missioners have taken no action on the resignation. Frank Webb, one of the gang that Oglesby undertook to arrest, has just been taken to Michigan City for safe-keeping, the order to do this having come from Judge Nye, and having been prompted by the presence in the community of many suspicious characters whom it was feared might undertake to liberate Webb. Hemphill Bros., horseshoers, will occupy the building next door north of their present shop during the erection of their new building. Some new dress trimmings at The G. E. Murray Co. store. For Bale: Good second hand road wagon very cheap. Enquire at this office.
