Kraut Factory Big Affair.

The Kraut factory at Newland is a somewhat larger affair than the people of the county seat have any idea. The main building is 40x90 feet in dimensions and an addition 35x90 feet is in course of building. T. M. Callahan is one of the stockholders and the local manager of the concern and the business has assumed proportions far beyond the greatest hopes of the company. Not only is all the cabbage raised in that country bought ac the good price ot $9 a ton, but 100 car loads have already been purchased and will be shipped in, and ten car loads of cabbage are now sidetracked on the Gifford roads to be used in the making of kraut. The season is just at its best and tenof the thirty kraut vats are now filled, making about 2,000 bar-els of kraut, and shipemeut out has also already begun. There is a ready market for the kraut, German settlements being particularly good customers. It is expected that 8,000 barrels will put up this year and probably more than that. A. A. Gorbet had the champion cabbage this year, having ten tons to the acre, which brought him the fine price of S9O for the acre.
