Some Bumper Loads of Corn.
Considerable corn has been marketed the past week and the enormous price of 60 cents a bushel paid for it. The Thompson-Lawler farm, just east of town and occupied by D. A. Tanner, has supplied 6,000 bushels and it has been hauled to market in the tallest wagons that ever brought the king, crop to market in Rensselaer. The wagons have been boarded up as high as it was safe to have them, and while the ordinary wagon load of corn that comes to an elevator contains from 35 to 55 bushels, these have contained from 75 to 80 and Mr. Tanner came in with a load Wednesday that contained 93 bushels ai d 30 pounds. It was twelve feet from the ground to the top of the wagon box, and it require careful driving to maintainthe balance, althoMr. Tanner looked as much at ease on the top of it as most people do on an ordinary load. The roads are in perfect condition for hauling now, making big loads possible with no hardships on the horses. Speaking of large loads of corn, the Ross farm manager, west of Brookston, had some large wagon-beds made. They were constructed out over the wheels, and from 110 to 140 bushels were hauled in them. As the dis tance the corn was hauled was about eight miles, and one team and one man hauled about as much as two teams and two men there was a great deal .of economy in the system and we presume it is still in operation.
