Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 40, Number 11, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 15 October 1907 — Little Pay For Truant Officer. [ARTICLE]
Little Pay For Truant Officer.
The amount of pay it is possible for a tenant officer to receive requires that the some one who is otherwise employed, and we can not think ot a more appropriate place for the office to land than with the county seat city marshal, not so especially as applied to this one case in Rens selaer and Jasper county but as a general proposition. The marshal is qualified by his office to perform with the least expense to the conn ty any duties Involving the arrest and punishment of negligent parents and guardians, and to do it with no neglect to his office of marshal. It is a great deal better to have a qualified officer who has other means of support than to bnrden the job on to some one who either has not time to care for it properly, or worse still on to some irresponsible person who wonld try to eke out a living from the job and by doing so is influenced to make the job more expensive on the taxpayers. The trustees acted very wisely in appointing W. S. Parks and we do not expect the city to suffer any by reason of his accepting the job of trnant officer.
