DIVORCE CASE IS CONTINUED
Erastoe Peacock Granted Continuance In His Plea for Divorce. The divorce case in which Eraßtus Peacock was the plaintiff, was called this Friday afternoon at 1 o’clock, and the plaintiff’s attorney, George A. Williams, asked for a continuance baeed on an affidavit from Mr. Peacock that his danghter Mrs. Lorena Bartoo, of Morocco, was sick and nnable to be here to testify in f his behalf. An affidavit was also filed by Mrs. Dora McClure, the second oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peacock. It stated that Mrs. Bartoo had said the day previous that she would be here and that the delay was occasioned by sickness. Abe Halleck, council for the defense, asked that the court make an allowance for the defendant for subsistence pending the trial of the case, and both plaintiff and defendant were sworn.
Mrs. Peacock was almost over come with emotion and responded to the questions of the attorneys in trembling and scarcely audible tones. She stated that she roomed and boarded at Harry Murray’s home and paid $4 a week for her accommodations. Mr. Peacock stated that he received a pension of sl6 a month and sll4 a month as a railway postal clerk when he worked but that his health had been such that he was able to work only about half ot the time. She testified that none of the children were dependent on her for support. He stated that he now clo.hed the younger son The court granted the continuance and instructed the plaintiff to pay $lO a week into the court for the support of the defendant. Mrs. Peacock was accompanied to the court room by her brother, Noble York and wile and abont twenty women, many of whom were to testify in the case. Mr. Peacock and his daughter, Mrs. Dora McClnre sat together. When Mrs. Peacock entered the court room, Mrs. McClure went over to her and engaged in a short conversation with her. The trial will be called at the November term of the court.
