PECULIAR DEATH OF GEORGE GUILD.
Winamac Democrat: The death of George Guild tie Medaryville liveryman occurred Tuesday morning from a somewhat unusual cause. Last Thursday, just after eliding to the ground from a load of hay, ha complained a little of straining something in his bowels. The pain grew more severe thru that night and Dr. Linton was summoned Friday morning. A day later he called Dr. Clayton of Monon in consultation, and Sunday evening he called Dr. George Thompson of this place. At that time the man was very low. He had been suffering intense pain, no action of the boweh had been obtained since the injury, and he was nearly pulseless. The physicians agreed upon a telescoping of the bowel as the trouble, but the man was so low that an operation would mean sure death from the anesthetic. A somewhat novel treatment, with a tube, two feet long and air pressure from a bicycle pump, was adopted as the only resort that could give relief. It proved successful —proper action of the bowels was secured, and with it ease for the patient. But he had sunk so low that exhaustion, coupled with a heart weakness that had affected him for years, resulted in his death as stated. A postmorten examination Tuesday afternoon by Drs. Linton and George Thompson in the presence of Drs. Hackley and Jay Jones of Medaryville, Clayton of Monon and Henry Thompson and Brown of Winamac disclosed the exact accuracy of the diagnosis; the treatment referred to had straightened out the tangled bowel, but its discoloration and other marks showed where it had been locked. Mr. Guild was about 62 years of age, and leaves five sons, all married. He had been a long time resident of Medaryville and vicinity and was held in high esteem. His wife died some two years ago, and since then his aged mother has kept his home for him. The funeral was today, with interment at Inde . pendence cemetery in Jasper county-
