Relics from Francesville.
Mr. Elijah Rees was over last week, visiting with his son, Auditor Rees, and family- Mr. Reese was showing our reporter a “murderous” looking knife, which weighed 14 ounces. The long blade, when open, was held by a clasp. The kni*fe originally be longed to Mrs. Rees’ .‘ather’s C. S. Rees, who purchased it from an Indian in 1844. Mr. Rees also has another curiosity—a letter written at Sheets’ Mill, Hamsphire county, Va., to Susan Rees, February 29, 1836. It had been folded, sealed (without envelope) and mailed, the postage on the letter being marked on one corner by the postmaster—--25 cents. The Democrat-Journal has a still older lettler, written in 181fi by Charles Ingrim the editor’s great uncle, who was slaughtered b> the Mexicans at the Alamo, near San Antonio, Tex, Feb. 23, 1836.—Winamac Dem. Journal.
