Fifty-Second Wedding Anniversary.
James W. McEwen, of the Democratic Sentinel, and his good wife Wednesday celebrated in a quiet way their 52nd wedding anniversary, aod “Uncle Jimmie,” in com vernation with the Republican editor, lapsed into some reminiscences of his early years spent as a printer’s apprentice and later as a publisher. It will be 60 years next March since he started to learn the trade, and 52 years on December 1 since he began to publish a newspaper. After publishing a paper at Monti ce’lo for 18 years he came to Rensselaer and founded the Democratic Sentinel, which he has now published for 31 years, in the face of the adverse prophecy* made when he started the paper that it would be dead in three months. Uncle Jimmie is a Democrat of the Simon Pure variety and tie has dealt out the doctrine of his fathers unfalteringly during all these years and now he is as energetic as in his younger days and the Democratic Sentinel is produced each week, edited, the type set, the press run, the folding and mailing done solely by him, with the assistance of his. wife.
