THE CITY COUNCIL
The City Council Monday night was occupied mostly with the consideration of claims and street and side-walk matters. The petition for the improvement Qf Scott street, the principal north and south street in the east part of town,, was dismissed because a majority of the property owners had remonstrated against it. The proposition was to improve the street further while the town-j ship narrow pike was being put in. To make the pike considerably wider, and with cement curbs along the sides. A petition sigM&by a majority of the property owlrefrs of Weston street was presented, the improvement to be made when the township pike is put in. It is proposed to make the macadam 30 feet wide .with cement curbs on each side. The improvement to extend from Harrison street on the south, to Elm street on the north. The petition specifies that the cost shall not exceed 75 cents per running foot on each side of the street. The city attorney was instructed to prepare the necessary resolutions. In the matter of the College avenue and Vine street/* sewer the city attorney was instructed to prepare a resolution fixing the preliminary assessment and setting the time of hearing for September 30th. The matter of a mercury rectifier at the St. Joseph college was referred to the light committee to investigate and confer with the college authorities. F. M. Parker and others asked for an arc light on Forest and Merritt and Merritt and Main streets. Referred to light committee.
